Why Dave Matthews Band would stop touring

Dave Matthews would consider an end to touring if he thought it was doing too much environmental harm, he says in the new issue of Rolling Stone.

The magazine asked, "You do stuff like carbon offsets to minimize the damage from touring, but do you ever think, I should stop touring altogether?" Dave replied, "It may come to that. I get sort of panicked, and I think, This is one of the most guilty forms of entertainment. But I hope we can find alternatives."

The brief interview is part of Rolling Stones' preview of the Live Earth concerts July 7. Dave also gives this tip for saving the planet: "Don't flush unless it's a turd."

Dave Matthews Band falls off Forbes list

Forbes magazine's annual list of the 100 richest and most powerful celebrities is out, and Dave Matthews Band isn't on it.

DMB came in at No. 51 on last year's list, with $30 million in pay. The Celebrity 100 rankings also consider how many Web hits the celebrities receive and how many press mentions they get. Last year's list was based on numbers from 2005, when DMB released Stand Up. DMB had no studio album last year, which likely led them to drop off this year's list.

Dave Matthews buys horses

Dave Matthews has bought some horses from Frederick Tour and Carriage Co., a Maryland horse-and-buggy ride operator that is going out of business, according to The Frederick News-Post. The article notes that Dave owns a farm in Charlottesville, Va., about three hours away from Frederick.

These purchases aren't Dave's first experience with horses. He went horseback riding with mounted police before a show in Scranton, Pa. last year, and he and Tim Reynolds played the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses" during their 1999 tour.

Critic loves Dave Matthews Band's London show

The Times of London raves about Dave Matthews Band's May 30 show at Wembley Arena. Reviewer David Sinclair praises DMB's "extraordinary fund of musical talent" and cites "You Might Die Trying" and "When the World Ends" as show highlights. (Although he does say that "When the World Ends," one of DMB's shortest songs, was a "long, instrumental odyssey," so maybe he's confusing it with another song.) Anyway, this review could not be any more different than what an Irish critic gave earlier in the tour.
