Gregg Allman plays with Dave Matthews Band

Gregg Allman sat in with Dave Matthews Band during tonight's concert at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, playing the Allman Bros. Band classic, "Melissa."

The show is still going on, but DMB has also played "Happy Birthday" for saxophonist LeRoi Moore. And Warren Haynes, the Allman Bros. Band guitarist and frequent DMB guest, sat in on "What Would You Say."

The Allmans were tonight's opening act, and the concert is a benefit for Piedmont Park.

Dave Matthews meets Virginia Tech victims

Dave Matthews Band headlined A Concert for Virginia Tech on Thursday night, helping about 50,000 members of the Virginia Tech community heal after April's campus massacre.

Highlights of DMB's set included a cover of Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" and John Mayer's appearance playing guitar on "#41." DMB also flew in The Roots' horn section to sit in for most of the show. And during Mayer's set, LeRoi Moore came out and played saxophone on "Gravity."

Nas and Phil Vassar also performed at the free show. The Roanoke Times has a great photo gallery, which includes pictures of Dave Matthews meeting Virginia Tech shooting victims before the concert. The Richmond Times-Dispatch has a positive review, featuring interviews with students talking about how the concert helped the school. But the review by Planet Blacksburg, a student-run media organization, is full of inaccuracies.

Dave Matthews' "Eh Hee" single, video debut

Dave Matthews' new single, "Eh Hee," and its video are out today.

Fans' reviews of "Eh Hee" are mostly positive so far. The song, which features Dave on all instruments, is a little slower and darker than the live versions fans have heard before. And the video, which Dave co-directed, would fit right into Peter Gabriel's catalog.

Take a look for yourself:

Dave Matthews Band records another new song

Dave Matthews Band has recorded "A Dream So Real," a new song written during this summer tour.

There's no word if DMB recorded a final version of the song for its next album, or if band members just wanted to lay the track down for now and work on it in more intense sessions later. Dave Matthews said earlier this summer that DMB is traveling with recording equipment and booking time in studios on days off.

Dave Matthews Band holds college campus contest

Dave Matthews Band and AT&T are holding a contest to determine which college campus will host a free DMB concert in November.

Here's how the contest works: People "invite" DMB to their school by either sending a text message or visiting the AT&T Blue Room site. On Oct. 15, the school that has sent the most invitations -- relative to its enrollment -- wins the concert. Iowa State is winning so far.

There's also a contest within the contest. The people who send the most creative invitations -- either through essays, photos, audio or video -- will win a flight for two and VIP tickets to the concert.

The official DMB site has all the rules and details.

Dave Matthews Band signs poster for Andy Roddick

Dave Matthews Band gave tennis star Andy Roddick an autographed poster for his 25th birthday. But it wasn't just any poster, according to the Detroit Free Press. Here's how DMB violinist Boyd Tinsley described it: "It was a picture of a little girl eating a grilled cheese sandwich who was smoking a pipe. What that means, I have no idea. But Andy seemed to like it."

Dave Matthews releasing "Eh Hee" on iTunes

Dave Matthews' new single, "Eh Hee," and an accompanying video will be available on iTunes on Tuesday.

The song will be for sale right away, but the video will be available for free for its first week on iTunes.

Dave Matthews played all instruments on the song, co-produced the track with John Alagia and co-directed the video with Fenton Williams. Alagia produced Dave Matthews Band's first two albums, Remember Two Things and Recently, and he has worked on several other DMB studio and live releases. Fenton is DMB's longtime lighting and live video director.

"Eh Hee" appears on the new Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds album, Live at Radio City. DMB is also playing the song regularly during its summer tour, but its release as a Dave solo song probably means DMB won't record it for its next studio album.

Dave Matthews Band concert good, mesh shirt bad

The Kansas City Star has a short review of Dave Matthews Band's Aug. 28 show in Bonner Springs, Kansas. The highlight is this line: "Boyd Tinsley, the band’s violinist, gave an especially notable performance – although the mesh shirt was probably not necessary."
