Dave Matthews Band may play Obama rally

Dave Matthews Band’s first 2008 concert could be much sooner than expected.

DMB is in talks to play a March 2 rally for presidential candidate Barack Obama at Ohio University, according to student newspaper The Post. Ohio officials and the event promoter still need to finalize the deal, but a preliminary contract does exist, the school’s vice president for student affairs said last night.

Dave Matthews has endorsed Obama for president and donated money to his campaign.

UPDATE: AntsMarching.org reports that Obama will be at the rally, but The Post article clearly says, “Obama is not scheduled to attend.” DMB will be the only rock stars there if the event comes together.

I find it just a little odd that this post is titled the band “may” perform at the rally, even though it is in the Athens newspaper–yet you have a litany of other posts with titles claiming to be “new album previews.”

You can’t caveat misleading headlines with a disclaimer first paragraph.

How is anything in the headline or story misleading? The newspaper clearly says there is “a contract that might bring Dave Matthews Band to Athens” and “the contract still needs to be signed off on by university officials and a Chicago production company.” My headline, “Dave Matthews Band may play Obama rally,” reflects that.

As for the New Album Preview, it’s called creative license. “The Preview of Songs That May or May Not Appear on Dave Matthews Band’s Next Studio Album” wasn’t quite as catchy.

Perhaps you could advertise lottery number picks, then disclaim them as possibly inaccurate as well.
