Dave Matthews Band New Album Preview:
'Cornbread'

Dave Matthews Band is hitting the studio early this year to record the follow-up to 2005's Stand Up, and DMBnews.net is taking a look at every song that could potentially appear on the new album. In Part Seven of the Dave Matthews Band New Album Preview, we focus on "Cornbread."

"Cornbread" made its first appearance during the Feb. 23, 2007 Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds concert in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. Dave and Tim played the song four times during their European tour and twice more upon returning to the United States.

On Aug. 1 in Mansfield, Mass., on opening night of the Dave Matthews Band summer tour, Dave played "Cornbread" solo to start the encore. The next night, Carter Beauford and Butch Taylor joined him on the song, and it became a full-band song Aug. 4 in Hartford, Conn.

Over the course of the tour, the song became a fan favorite with its upbeat sound and comically dirty lyrics. Dave and Tim released the song on their Live at Radio City album, and it also appears on Dave Matthews Band's Live at Piedmont Park album.

Why "Cornbread" will end up on the new Dave Matthews Band album: It was the most-played song on DMB's 2007 summer tour, and Stefan Lessard has said it will likely appear on the new CD.

Why it won't: Its sound may not fit with the rest of the album.
