Edwards, the 2004 Democratic vice presidential candidate, finally confirmed today the longstanding rumors that he had an affair with 42-year-old Rielle Hunter.
Hunter's firm produced online videos for Edwards' failed 2008 presidential campaign, and one of the videos used "True Reflections" as its soundtrack. Some versions of the Associated Press' coverage quote the song, pointing out the lyrics' irony in light of Edwards' scandal: "When you look into a mirror, do you like what's looking at you? Now that you've seen your true reflection, what on earth are you gonna do?"
Boyd is a longtime Edwards supporter who has donated to his campaign and played fundraiser concerts. "True Reflections" is a song that Boyd wrote before joining Dave Matthews Band and recorded as the title track of his solo album in 2003. DMB also played the song regularly up to 2003.
UPDATE (8/9/08): Fox News speculates that Hunter herself may have chosen "True Reflections" as the soundtrack to take a jab at Edwards.
