LeRoi Moore’s greatest performances
DMBnews.net has gone through the Dave Matthews Band catalog to select some of the late LeRoi Moore’s greatest performances over the years. Check these out — they’re all on official releases — and remember all that LeRoi brought to DMB over the years:
- “Seek Up,” Live at Red Rocks 8.15.95: The song that introduced LeRoi’s live prowess to the masses.
- “One Sweet World,” Live Trax Vol. 5: LeRoi brings the house down during the instrumental intro. Possibly the best version ever of this classic.
- “Long Black Veil,” The Gorge (Box Set): This song’s a one-of-a-kind duet with LeRoi and Dave Matthews.
- “Spoon,” The Central Park Concert Bonus Disc: The intensity that LeRoi and Carter Beauford brought every night is fully on display here.
- “Warehouse,” The Central Park Concert: LeRoi escalates the jam from a laid-back vibe to an intense salsa outro in a matter of seconds, but makes it seem completely natural.
- “Typical Situation,” Stand Up Bonus Disc: The 7/8 jam features an all-time great LeRoi solo, but he’s an unstoppable force throughout the song.
- “The Last Stop,” Live Trax Vol. 6: The song itself is kind of a train wreck, but LeRoi and Rashawn Ross manage to squeeze in some amazing licks throughout.
Please post your own favorite LeRoi Moore performances in the comments for others to enjoy.

-Watchtower on Folsom Field. He did his trademark wail on the exploding driving rock, and then took a simple two-note riff for his solo and made it sound like something amazing. Then at the very end he did a climbing riff that was very hard to do.
-Grey Street, 7.7.01, Soldier Field. It opened and his solo at the very end just blew everything away.
I’ll miss you LeRoi.
That live version of “One Sweet World” with the extended intro is probably the best performance of that song ever. As for my favorite performance by him, I’d say it was one of the Foxboro shows from 2000 or 2001 when they closed with “Two Step,” and I remember him having a big solo that was really surprisingly awesome. I always felt he was the most underrated soloist in the band, and he shined that night.
I think the saxophone solo in “Jimi Thing” on Live in Chicago 12.19.98 is awesome! Truly inventive and is worth a second listen if you haven’t heard it in awhile!
The song I had on a permanent loop last night as I watched the setlist updates from what had to be an emotional Staples Center and crying my eyes out? #34, studio cut. Subtle but powerful… just like LeRoi.
bartender at folsom field! the best penny whistle…ever!!!!!!!!!
peace LeRoi!

Crush from Live Trax 2008 (the Scranton show from 6/10/08) has a chilling back-and-forth between Roi and Timmy toward the end.
