Dave Matthews stars in American Express ad

Dave Matthews will appear in a new American Express ad campaign.

The commercial will begin airing tomorrow, and it features four celebrities -- Dave, Gwyneth Paltrow, Brian Grazer and Tina Turner -- talking about their inspirations and motivations. Dave specifically talks about how valuable it was to have people who believed in him.

Here's the video from American Express:

This ad is the most prominent, but not the first, commercial appearance by a Dave Matthews Band member. Boyd Tinsley used to appear in TV ads for Twix and in print ads for Jansport, and the late LeRoi Moore was in a Honda commercial.

New Dave Matthews Band CD still in preproduction

The new Dave Matthews Band album has a ways to go before it's finished.

Dave Matthews and Stefan Lessard have both posted updates about the new DMB album on Twitter. Stefan posted last night that "the songs are real cool so far, each one very different." But he also said that the band hasn't begun tracking, which is when they record their actual parts for the album.

Meanwhile, Dave had this to say about the new DMB album: "All new music. I'm happy to say there are beautiful moments of LeRoi. I like it."

It's unclear what Dave means by "all new music." He could mean that nothing on the album has been recorded in the studio before. It would be pretty surprising if songs like "Cornbread" and "#27" that DMB has played live for the past two years were not on the album.

Dave Matthews Band left the recording studio this week after just six days and won't resume work on its new album until 2009.

That's according to Stefan Lessard, who wrote on Twitter that Saturday was the "last day in the studio till the beginning of next year." DMB just entered the studio in Seattle on Monday, Nov. 17.

Live Trax 2008 track listining announced

Dave Matthews Band has released the track listing for Live Trax 2008, an iTunes exclusive album that will be available later this week.

The highlight of the eight-song album is "Bartender" from Aug. 19, 2008 -- the emotional first song that DMB played after LeRoi Moore's death. DMB has already released live versions of every song on Live Trax 2008, but that track alone should make the album worthwhile for fans. The album also includes "So Damn Lucky" from LeRoi's final show.

Fans who purchased summer tour tickets through either the Warehouse or Ticketmaster will receive codes to download Live Trax 2008 free Thursday. The album will then go on sale through iTunes in mid-December.

Here's the full track listing for Live Trax 2008:

1. "Eh Hee," June 24, Mansfield, Mass.
2. "So Damn Lucky," June 28, Bristow, Va.
3. "Crush," June 10, Scranton, Pa.
4. "The Dreaming Tree," June 21, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
5. "Pay For What You Get," June 10, Scranton, Pa.
6. "Proudest Monkey," June 24, Mansfield, Mass.
7. "Bartender," Aug. 19, Los Angeles
8. "Tripping Billies," Aug. 10, East Troy, Wisc.

DMB is also commercially releasing Live Trax Vol. 13 on Dec. 16, according to Billboard. That album has been available from DMB's Web site since last month.

Dave Matthews Band returns to studio next week

Dave Matthews Band will go back into the studio next week to resume work on its new album.

Stefan Lessard wrote on Twitter this morning that he has one week left to surf before "going to make some music up in Seattle." DMB started work on its new studio album in Seattle earlier this year before stopping to go on tour.

Dave Matthews recently said there is no timetable for finishing the album, and the band will try to include tracks laid down by the late LeRoi Moore in the final product. There has been no official word on what the band will do for other saxophone parts, but summer fill-in Jeff Coffin is reportedly in talks to join the band full time.

Report: Jeff Coffin in talks to join DMB

Jeff Coffin, saxophonist for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, could be the newest member of Dave Matthews Band.

Coffin is in talks to permanently replace LeRoi Moore, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. Moore, DMB's saxophonist, passed away in August from complications of injuries he suffered in a June ATV accident. Coffin filled in for Moore during DMB's summer tour.

Dave Matthews recently told AntsMarching.org that new studio recordings DMB made before the summer tour feature LeRoi, and the band is doing its best to include his participation on its next album.
