DMB 2009 Summer Tour Awards: Best Cover Song

We'll be giving out our Dave Matthews Band 2009 Summer Tour Awards over the next week. Fans voted for winners in five categories -- Best Cover Song, Best Guest, Best Song, Best Concert and Band MVP -- on our Facebook page.

Today we announce the winner of Best Cover Song. The nominees were "All Along the Watchtower" by Bob Dylan, "Burning Down the House" by Talking Heads, "The Maker" by Daniel Lanois, "Rye Whiskey" by Tex Ritter and "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" by Sly and the Family Stone. And the winner is ...

"All Along the Watchtower"

DMB's unique spin on "Watchtower" has always made the song a fan favorite. But this year the song benefited from the return of the "Stairway to Heaven" jam, with Tim Reynolds playing Jimmy Page's guitar solo and the horn section tackling the vocal melody. Dave Matthews even sang part of "Stairway" during some versions, and Stefan Lessard often interpolated the song during his bass intros to "Watchtower."

Honorable mentions go to "The Maker" and "Burning Down the House."
