DMB 2009 Summer Tour Awards: Band MVP

The final DMB 2009 Summer Tour Award is the most important: Band MVP.

Who was the star of this summer’s Dave Matthews Band tour? Every band member (Boyd Tinsley, Carter Beauford, Dave Matthews and Stefan Lessard) was nominated, as was every touring member (Jeff Coffin, Rashawn Ross and Tim Reynolds). And the winner is …

Carter Beauford

Carter’s drumming continues to leave fans in awe, and his drum solo on “Two Step” was one of the highlights of the tour. There’s not much you can say about him that hasn’t already been said. The man is a marvel.

Honorable mentions go to Dave Matthews and Jeff Coffin, who had the unenviable task of following LeRoi Moore on saxophone and has fit seamlessly into the band.

Jeff Coffin should not get honorable mention here.. He takes away from Roi's memory with all of his ostentatious theatrics on stage. On tape he sounds pretty good.. but seeing him play live, I feel like he takes some of my favorite Roi songs and turns them into more of a dog and pony show — especially Crush and #41.

Fan voting determined the winner and honorable mentions in each category of these awards.
