'Funny the Way It Is' tops Billboard Triple A chart

"Funny the Way It Is," Dave Matthews Band's latest single, is No. 1 on this week's Billboard Triple A chart.

"Funny the Way It Is" debuted at No. 7 last week and jumped up to No. 1 this week. Eight DMB songs have held the top spot on the chart, starting with "Too Much" in 1996, but "Funny the Way It Is" is the first since "Where Are You Going" in 2002.

Only U2, with 10 songs, has more appearances at No. 1 on the Triple A chart. "Triple A" stands for "adult album alternative," and the format's other heavy hitters include Coldplay, Sheryl Crow and R.E.M.

Win an advance copy of Big Whiskey

Dave Matthews Band fans can win an advance copy of Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King through the new "Party with the King" contest.

DMB wants fans to organize listening parties through Facebook. The 100 fans who get the most people to RSVP to their parties will win a copy of the new DMB album to play at the party -- before its June 2 release date.

If that's not enough, the host of the best party (based on video evidence) will then win a trip to meet Dave Matthews and get front row tickets to the Aug. 15 DMB concert in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Dave Matthews Band to headline Austin City Limits

Dave Matthews Band will headline the Austin City Limits festival in October.

The festival has announced its full lineup, which also includes Pearl Jam, the Beastie Boys and Sonic Youth. The show dates are Oct. 2-4, but it's not yet known which night DMB will play. The band has a concert Oct. 2 in Tulsa, Okla.

DMB has never played the Austin City Limits festival before. The band hasn't played in Austin since 1999, although Dave Matthews and Emmylou Harris taped an episode of "Austin City Limits" there in 2000.

Big Whiskey bonus tracks are mostly new

The Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King bonus tracks are mostly new material -- not studio versions of older songs, as many fans had hoped.

The super deluxe edition of the new Dave Matthews Band album will come with a four-track bonus disc, along with other items. The bonus songs are "#27," "Beach Ball," "Little Red Bird" and "Write a Song," according to Amazon.com. DMB has played "#27" live since 2007, and the other three songs are new.

The Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King super deluxe edition also includes a documentary DVD, a booklet paying tribute to LeRoi Moore, a photo booklet and 14 lithographs of Dave Matthews drawings illustrating every song on the album, according to Target. (But there are only 13 tracks on the album, leading to some speculation of a hidden track.)

Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King is out June 2 and available for pre-order now.

Dave Matthews Band debuts two new songs:
'Why I Am' and 'Spaceman'

Two new Dave Matthews Band songs made their debuts at Tuesday's Madison Square Garden concert.

DMB played "Why I Am" and "Spaceman" at the show. "Why I Am" turned out to be the song that appeared in a leaked studio video in February, and Dave Matthews said on stage that it was the late LeRoi Moore's favorite from the upcoming DMB album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Here's a video of the performance:

And here's "Spaceman":

DMB also played "Funny the Way It Is," which the band released as a single earlier that day. So here's a video of that performance too:

We took these admittedly low-quality DMB videos from Madison Square Garden, as well.

New DMB album cover art pieced together

The new Dave Matthews Band album cover art has been almost fully revealed, thanks to the sleuths over at AntsMarching.org.

They have uncovered all but one portion of the Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King cover art, which briefly appeared on the Dave Matthews Band Official Site this morning, and pieced them together. All that is missing is the middle section.

The album cover art is a sketch by Dave Matthews that depicts a parade through the streets of New Orleans.

'Funny the Way It Is' video preview from Billboard

"Funny the Way It Is," the new Dave Matthews Band single, makes its public debut in this new video from Billboard.com:

"Funny the Way It Is" is one of three new songs that plays during the video, which previews the new DMB album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. The video also features "Shake Me Like a Monkey," which already appeared in a DMB promotional video, and another song that sounds a lot like "Sister."

An accompanying Dave Matthews interview sheds additional light on Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Dave confirms the name of another track, "Cockadile." Billboard describes it as having a "swampy feel" that "taps into the New Orleans vibe." A lyric in the song is, "When my Stella cries, 'Daddy, when you gonna put me in a song?'" and Danny Barnes plays banjo on the song (as well as on "Space Man" and "Skworm").

Rumor has it that Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King contains 10 songs, and nine titles are now known: "Shake Me Like a Monkey," "Dive In," "Spaceman" or "Space Man," "Squirm" or "Skworm," "Timebomb," "Lying in the Hands of God," "Funny the Way It Is," "Why I Am" and "Cockadile."

Billboard also offers up the lyrics to the chorus of "Dive In":
Wake up sleepy head, I think the sun's a little brighter today
Smile and watch the icicles melt away and see the waters rising
Summer's here to stay and all the summer dreams will last forever
Let's go down to the shore and kick off our shoes and dive in the empty ocean
UPDATE (12:50 p.m.): Billboard has posted an additional interview with DMB members and producer Rob Cavallo. They talk about how they included LeRoi Moore's posthumous sax parts on Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, and they confirm that DMB will play songs from the new album during its spring tour.

New Dave Matthews Band album cover art?

Is the new Dave Matthews Band album cover art online? It may be.

The Dave Matthews Band Official Site has posted this new sketch, which some are speculating is the cover art for Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King:

Dave Matthews said recently he was working on a sketch for the album cover art, and this sketch appears similar to some other works by Dave we've seen in the past. But the official DMB site offers no description of the art, so we're all left wondering for now.

The sketch is clearly influenced by New Orleans, where DMB recorded Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Interestingly, it also features a person "Falling Off the Roof," which is the name of a song DMB played just once in 2007.

Keith Urban tour bus dumps septic tank in NYC

Dave Matthews Band may finally get a reprieve from all the tour bus-related poop jokes it has been the butt of for the past five years.

DMB has Keith Urban to tank ... er, thank. The country star's tour bus dumped 150 square feet of half-inch-thick "gunk" on East 11th Street in New York after his show last week at Webster Hall, the New York Post reports.

"It was a literal shit show," one employee told the Post.

DMB's reputation in Chicago got flushed down the drain in 2004, when the band's bus driver dumped human waste while on a bridge, sending it splattering on a boat full of tourists on the river below.

New DMB single 'Funny the Way It Is' due 4/9

Dave Matthews Band's new single, "Funny the Way It Is," will hit the airwaves April 9.

Several radio stations have confirmed the title of the single and its release date. UPDATE (4/7): Radio stations are now saying the single won't be out until April 14.

New DMB studio video previews Big Whiskey

A new Dave Matthews Band studio video includes a clip of "Shake Me Like a Monkey," the first track from Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King:

The video, posted on YouTube yesterday, captures a late February night in New Orleans when producer Rob Cavallo invited 15 lucky DMB fans into the studio to preview the new album. It includes the first minute or so of the album, which begins with a sax intro by the late LeRoi Moore and then breaks into "Shake Me Like a Monkey." Dave Matthews, Carter Beauford and Rashawn Ross were also in the studio at the time.

The song features blaring horns and an energetic funk sound that has gotten positive reviews from fans so far. AntsMarching.org reports that more studio videos are on the way as DMB begins its promotional push for the new album, which comes out June 2.
