Dave Matthews Band releases 'Spotlight'
"Spotlight" is on The Flood Zone, Richmond, VA 01/27/1993, which Dave Matthews Band just released today as part of its DMBLive series. The song was a staple at DMB concerts in 1992 and 1993 but disappeared after the Oct. 22, 1993 show, never to be played again.
Dave Matthews has since likened "Spotlight" to "a turd," giving fans little hope it will ever return.
The Flood Zone, Richmond, VA 01/27/1993 is the earliest concert recording DMB has released to date. The album is also noteworthy because it is the first official release featuring Peter Greisar, who was DMB's keyboard player from the band's inception through March 23, 1993.
Dave Matthews Band to play Churchill Downs in '10
In addition to Dave Matthews Band, the Churchill Downs festival will feature headliners Bon Jovi and Kenny Chesney. Other acts confirmed for the three-day HullabaLOU Music Festival include the Black Crowes, Steve Miller Band, Gov't Mule, the Zac Brown Band, Sam Bush, the B 52s and the Doobie Brothers.
For DMB, the Churchill Downs show marks the first confirmed 2010 U.S. tour date. The band has announced a 2010 European tour that begins Feb. 13 in Stockholm.
Churchill Downs is the legendary race track that hosts the Kentucky Derby. DMB last performed in Louisville in 2008, when the band played at Lousiville Slugger Field.

Dave Matthews Band Europe 2009 DVD/CD set due
The Dave Matthews Band Europe 2009 box set will include three CDs and a DVD. The DVD will include DMB's complete June 26, 2009 concert at O2 Academy in Brixton, as well as four songs from the June 25 show at the same venue: "Dive In," "Spaceman," "Time Bomb" and "Two Step."
Highlights of the June 26 show include a "Too Much" tease into "Lie In Our Graves," as well as "All Along the Watchtower" with a "Stairway to Heaven" outro.
The content of the three CDs is unknown at this time. It could be just an audio version of one of the Brixton concerts, but the Europe 2009 title seems to imply it will include other performances from DMB's 11-stop European tour. AntsMarching.org reports that Europe 2009 details from DMB management will be coming soon.

Dave Matthews at MusiCares Neil Young tribute
The concert will mark Dave's second performance at a Neil Young tribute show; he covered "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" at a 2001 concert. Dave Matthews Band has since covered that song and several other classics, including "Down By the River" and "Cortez the Killer." Young has also joined DMB on stage to play those songs on occasion, as well as "Rockin' in the Free World" and "All Along the Watchtower."
MusiCares is a foundation run by the Grammys that supports those in the music industry during times of personal emergencies. The foundation named Neil Young its 2010 Person of the Year in August.

DMB 2009 Summer Tour Awards: Band MVP
Who was the star of this summer's Dave Matthews Band tour? Every band member (Boyd Tinsley, Carter Beauford, Dave Matthews and Stefan Lessard) was nominated, as was every touring member (Jeff Coffin, Rashawn Ross and Tim Reynolds). And the winner is ...
Carter Beauford
Carter's drumming continues to leave fans in awe, and his drum solo on "Two Step" was one of the highlights of the tour. There's not much you can say about him that hasn't already been said. The man is a marvel.
Honorable mentions go to Dave Matthews and Jeff Coffin, who had the unenviable task of following LeRoi Moore on saxophone and has fit seamlessly into the band.

The second night of the two-night stand at SPAC was one to remember, featuring the tour debuts of the classics "Typical Situation," "Lie in Our Graves," "The Stone" and "The Song That Jane Likes." The rarities-filled encore capped the show with a brief Dave Matthews solo version of "#40," followed by "Granny," "Water Into Wine," "All Along the Watchtower" (with the "Stairway to Heaven" jam) and finally "Halloween." Other highlights included a "Shake Me Like a Monkey" opener and the first-ever performance of "Dive In."

DMB 2009 Summer Tour Awards: Best Song
Fans chose among these five nominees on our Facebook page: "#41," "Crush," "Lying in the Hands of God," "Why I Am" and "You Might Die Trying." And the winner is ...
"#41"
"#41" has been a fan favorite ever since its debut in 1995. The DMB 2009 summer tour saw some fantastic versions of the song, thanks to regular interpolations of "Sojourn of Arjuna," a song by Jeff Coffin's other band, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.
Honorable mentions go to two Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King songs that made their live debuts this year, "Why I Am" and "Lying in the Hands of God."
