Santana, Dave and Carter recorded "Rain Down on Me" and "Love of My Life" for Santana's 1999 Supernatural album, but only "Love of My Life" made the cut. "Rain Down on Me" will appear on the bonus disc of the Supernatural legacy edition, which comes out Feb. 16.Most fans know "Rain Down on Me" as "John the Revelator," a title that comes from the traditional song on which the track is based. Dave Matthews Band and Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds played "Rain Down on Me" a handful of times in 1999, usually with Carlos Santana as a guest.
When the song didn't make the cut for Supernatural, DMB took the song into the studio, removed the "John the Revelator" chorus, added a new jam at the end and renamed the song "JTR." It appeared on the leaked Lillywhite Sessions album in 2001.
