Dave Matthews Band concert bomb plot suspect arrested

The FBI and Chicago police have arrested a man in connection with a Dave Matthews Band concert bomb plot at Wrigley Field.

Dave Matthews Band concert bomb plot suspect Sami Samir HassounAuthorities said Sami Samir Hassoun, 22, planned to bomb the busy neighborhood outside Wrigley Field after Saturday night’s Dave Matthews Band concert, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Hassoun had been unknowingly working with undercover agents, who gave him a fake bomb that he planted in a trash can outside the popular bar Sluggers, the Tribune reported last night.

The Dave Matthews Band concert bomb plot suspect hoped the bombing would destroy half the block, and he also talked about tainting the city’s water supply, assassinating outgoing Mayor Richard Daley, attacking the Willis Tower and setting off multiple car bombs — all in a plan to have one of his friends take over the city of Chicago, authorities told the Tribune.

Hassoun is due in court tomorrow for a detention hearing on the Dave Matthews Band concert bomb plot case. He faces charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to detonate an explosive device.
