Dave Matthews Band rare songs album in the works?

Some Dave Matthews Band rare songs may see the light of day on an upcoming B-sides collection.

Dave Matthews said in a recent interview with the German site Musicheadquarter that the band and its management have been talking about putting out an album of DMB rare songs.

"There are conversations about that," Dave said. "In fact we’ve been talking about that very recently. ... My manager just sent me a long list of about 40 songs that we have, that we’ve never recorded. He said that I should just think about it. ... I don’t say 'never,' but I tend to look forward rather than behind."

Musicheadquarter specifically asked Dave about the songs "Get in Line," "#40" and "Deed is Done."

"Those are three songs I have a soft spot for," Dave said.

"Get in Line" is a song DMB played regularly in the fall of 1994 and soundchecked once in 1999. Although the band played it during the studio sessions for Crash, Before These Crowded Streets and the Lillywhite Sessions, it never made an album.

DMB also played "Deed Is Done" during the Crash sessions, and Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds played the song several times from 1996 through 1999. "#40" debuted in 1995 and has been a rare treat at concerts since then, and DMB tried the song out during the Before These Crowded Streets sessions as well.

Dave also had this to say about "Machead," the Dave Matthews Band rare song that only a handful of people have ever heard: "It definitely did not evolve into 'Bartender.' ... I sort of remember how it went. It was really pretty."

Other prominent songs that could appear on a Dave Matthews Band rare songs collection include "Build You a House," "Kill the King," "The Idea of You," "Break Free," "Can't Stop," "Crazy Easy," "Good Good Time," "Loving Wings," "Shotgun," "Sister," "Sugar Will" and "Spotlight."

In the interview, Dave also talks about LeRoi Moore, playing in Europe, his acting career, his ATO Records label and the chances of DMB playing "JTR" in concert this year.

LeRoi: A verb?

LeRoi (verb): To omit a deserving entertainer from his or her respective industry awards show's annual montage to those who have passed away.

That's according to ?uestlove of The Roots, who posted this message on Twitter last night after the Academy Awards did not include Farrah Fawcett in its memorial montage:
did they just "Leroi" Farrah by not paying tribute?
LeRoi Moore died in August 2008 from complications of an injury suffered in an ATV accident that June. In February 2009, the Grammys did not honor LeRoi at their awards show, drawing heat from Dave Matthews Band fans -- as well as from Dave Matthews and Stefan Lessard.

Fawcett, best known for her role in Charlie's Angels, died of cancer in June 2009. Her omission from the Oscars memorial last night has also drawn a lot of criticism.

Wrigley Field concerts get Chicago City Council panel approval

Two Wrigley Field concerts this September are closer to reality.

A Chicago City Council panel today approved two Wrigley Field concerts for Sept. 17 and 18. The Chicago Tribune report -- and apparently the City Council itself -- did not specifically mention Dave Matthews Band, but the Chicago Sun-Times has previously reported that the Wrigley Field concerts in September will be DMB shows.

Nobody opposed the two Wrigley Field concerts at today's meeting, and several neighborhood groups are actually in favor of the shows, according to the Tribune. The full City Council must now vote to approve the Wrigley Field concerts.

Rumors of two Wrigley Field Dave Matthews Band concerts began swirling in January. The Chicago Cubs also plan to host a Wrigley Field concert in July; that show was supposed to feature Billy Joel and Elton John, but they decided not to tour this summer.

Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews song I'm Alive up for Academy of Country Music Award

The Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews song "I'm Alive" received an Academy of Country Music Award nomination today in the Vocal Event of the Year category.

The Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews song performance was from the 2009 CMA Awards.Besides the Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews song, the other Academy of Country Music Award nominees are songs by Brooks and Dunn with Billy Gibbons, Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis, Jack Ingram and Patty Griffin, and Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins.

The Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews song originally appeared on Chesney's 2008 album Lucky Old Sun. But it didn't become a country hit until last year, when Chesney released "I'm Alive" as a single off his Greatest Hits II album.

The CMA Awards in November featured a performance of the Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews song. That was not the first time the two had shared a stage, however. They played Steve Miller Band's "The Joker" at a Chesney concert in Atlanta in 2007.

Chesney received four Academy of Country Music Award nominations this year, including Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. Dave has never received an Academy of Country Music Award nomination before.

The Academy of Country Music Awards will air April 18 on CBS. It's not yet known if the show will include a performance of the Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews song.
