Dave Matthews Band 2018 tour dates, new album announced

The Dave Matthews Band 2018 tour will make 45 stops in support of a new studio album.

DMB released no details about the new album, its first since 2012, other than to say “the band is currently putting the finishing touches on” it. Official word of a new DMB album first emerged in September, when Dave Matthews said he and Carter Beauford had gone into the studio to record music for the project.

The Dave Matthews Band 2018 tour kicks off May 18 in The Woodlands, Texas and runs through Sept. 10 in Los Angeles. It includes two-night stands in Gilford, New Hampshire; Camden, New Jersey; Chicago; Noblesville, Indiana; Saratoga Springs, New York; West Palm Beach, Florida; and Englewood, Colorado. DMB will also make its traditional three-night stand at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington over Labor Day Weekend.

View our tour dates page for the full schedule. Warehouse members may request tickets to the Dave Matthews Band 2018 tour until Jan. 22 at 12 p.m. ET. A presale for Citi cardholders begins Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets go on sale to the general public Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. local time.

The best tickets for the Dave Matthews Band 2018 tour will cost more money than in years past. General admission pit and some reserved seats will cost $115 before fees. But lawn and other reserved seating tickets will start at $45.50 and $49.50, respectively, depending on the venue. In addition, each ticket purchased by May 17 will come with a copy of the new DMB album, either on CD or as a digital download.

The first DMB concert of 2018 will take place Feb. 3 at The Night Before concert, which is part of the Super Bowl celebration in Minneapolis. That will be the band’s first show since 2016, aside from the Concert for Charlottesville in September. Former keyboard player Butch Taylor rejoined the band for that performance; there has been no word regarding his future status with the band, either in the studio or on tour.

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds will also perform Jan. 28 as part of the Citi Sound Vault series at Irving Plaza in New York.

Dave Matthews Band will return to the studio this fall with the goal of releasing a new album early next year.

That’s the news from Dave Matthews, who spoke to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette to promote this week’s Farm Aid 2017 concert. He and Carter Beauford recorded music for the new Dave Matthews Band album earlier this year, and there are several other songs DMB has worked on and performed over the past few years.

“We have a lot of stuff, so my plan is that we’ll put together some music this fall so we can have something out hopefully the beginning of next year,” Dave said. “Hopefully, get it finished before that. I think we have some great music and some stuff that Carter and I worked on that’s added to the pile. There’s a lot to choose from. I just hope I choose wisely.”

There has not been a new Dave Matthews Band album since Away from the World, which was released five years ago today. Since 2015, DMB has performed eight new songs live: “Be Yourself,” “Bismarck,” “Black and Blue Bird,” “Bob Law,” “Death on the High Seas,” “Plastic Girl,” “Samurai Cop” and “Virginia in the Rain.”

In the interview, Dave also discussed the recent protests in Charlottesville, life at 50 and his work with Farm Aid.

Throwback Thursday: DMB on Letterman’s roof in 2002

The night before releasing its fifth studio album, Busted Stuff, Dave Matthews Band recorded a performance for The Late Show with David Letterman. But it wasn’t a typical TV appearance.

The July 15, 2002 performance took place on the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater, where DMB played four songs from its forthcoming album: “Where Are You Going,” “Grey Street,” “You Never Know” and “Grace Is Gone.” In this photo, Boyd Tinsley, Carter Beauford, Dave Matthews, Stefan Lessard and LeRoi Moore look up at a camera during a break in the action. Butch Taylor also performed with DMB at this show.

Live Trax 37 now available

Live Trax Vol. 37: 11.11.92, Trax, Charlottesville, VA is now available from the Dave Matthews Band Official Store.

The three-disc album is the oldest recording to be released in the Live Trax series and the first to feature former DMB member Peter Griesar, who plays keyboard and harmonica.

Highlights of Live Trax 37 include two consecutive improv jams after “Ants Marching” in the second set, a unique early version of “Halloween” by Dave Matthews and Carter Beauford and a 16-minute “Two Step” to end the first set. Live Trax 37 also includes a rare performance of “Spotlight,” which DMB stopped playing in 1993. And Boyd Tinsley sings lead on two songs on the album: his own “True Reflections” and a cover of John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery.”
